Rosatom Enters Wind Industry

It is not by coincidence that Rosatom has entered the wind industry. According to Rosatom’s First Deputy CEO Kirill Komarov, the Russian company has all necessary competencies and capacity to set up local production of wind generators. “Rosatom is a unique company in terms of its business scope. We invest in power generation and own nearly 27% of Russia’s total installed capacity. We know how to construct power plants and have hands-on knowledge of the power market. More importantly, we have our own mechanical engineering facilities”. Rosatom’s subsidiary Atommash (Volgodonsk, Russia) will be the main production site as it has necessary infrastructure, including production halls, storage sites and a river pier. Another advantage of the plant is its relative proximity to the selected wind farm sites in Southern Russia. In 2016, Rosatom won the bid to construct three wind farms with a total capacity of 610 MW in Russia. This is about 17% of the total wind power capacity to be commissioned in the country by 2024. Rosatom is going to develop the wind business with the help of Dutch wind turbine manufacturer Lagerwey. The partnership agreement to build wind parks was signed in late January this year…
