Akkuyu NPP. Concreting of the reactor island basemat was completed at Turkey’s Akkuyu NPP Unit 4. In order to ensure maximum strength of the basemat, the workers laid 3,500 tons of steel reinforcement and 17,500 cubic meters of concrete mix. For comparison, this volume of concrete would be enough to make a one-meter-high slab covering 10 soccer fields. A special high-quality concrete mix is used for the foundations of nuclear reactors. It includes natural materials, crushed stone and sand, produced right on the Akkuyu construction site. Rosatom is building a four-unit nuclear power plant with VVER-1200 reactors in Turkey.
