Armenian NPP. Rosatom took part in planned preventive maintenance (PPM) activities at Unit 2 of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant. After they were completed, the power unit was successfully reconnected to Armenia’s national grid. The Russian nuclear corporation was contracted to conduct preliminary inspections, supply spare parts, and upgrade some of the equipment and safety systems. The PPM program included a large amount of preparatory work that was carried out by Russian engineers to support another extension of the service life of the VVER-440 reactor unit. First launched in 1980, Unit 2 underwent a major upgrade completed with Rosatom’s assistance in 2021. Its current operating license expires in 2026. The Armenian government has passed a resolution to begin procedures for extending the unit’s service life until 2036. The Armenian NPP generates approximately 30% of the country’s total electricity.
