Belarusian NPP. On May 19, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko and head of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev commenced bringing the Belarusian NPP Unit 2 to its design capacity. The power development stage is one of the most important in the program for commissioning a nuclear facility. The program provides for a gradual output with dynamic tests in various operating modes with the shutdown of the main equipment. Commissioning is the final stage in the construction of new nuclear power units. Rosatom has built two units of the Belarusian NPP with VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2400 MW. The first unit was put into commercial operation on June 10, 2021. Commissioning of the second unit is scheduled for autumn 2023. The station will provide about 40% of Belarus’ domestic electricity needs.
