Bolivia. Russia delivered a pressure vessel for the nuclear research reactor to Bolivia. It will be installed in the Nuclear Research and Technology Center constructed by Rosatom in El Alto at 4,000 meters above sea level. The Bolivian Nuclear Energy Agency (ABEN) expects the reactor pressure vessel to be installed by the end of this year. Planned to go critical in 2025, this 200 MWth water-cooled water-moderated pool-type research reactor will have a service life of 50 years. “Installations of this kind are capable of producing radioisotopes that can improve our water management practices. Another application is the use of neutron activation analysis in the mining industry. This technique will help us find minerals, which are of national interest and strategic importance to the country, and identify areas that are promising for development,” said ABEN nuclear engineering specialist Erlan Vasquez.
