Construction sites. A retaining frame has been placed in its design position at Unit 1 of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, which is being constructed in Egypt. This is a welded steel structure located in the reactor pit and designed to securely hold the reactor vessel. For the first time ever in the construction of a VVER-1200 power unit, the retaining frame was integrated into a pre-assembled rebar cage. This solution moved complex operations out of the primary installation area, keeping the work on other key equipment running while adhering to safety, quality, and time requirements. “The installation of the retaining frame is another important milestone in the construction of Egypt’s first nuclear power plant. This achievement reflects the high level of coordinated work among all project teams and demonstrates our commitment to the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency,” said Dr. Sherif Helmy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Egypt’s Nuclear Power Plants Authority. The next stage of work at Unit 1 will be to place the reactor pressure vessel in its design position. The El Dabaa NPP, being built by Rosatom, will have four VVER-1200 units and will be Egypt’s first nuclear power plant.
