Construction sites in Russia. Rosatom obtained a construction permit for Leningrad NPP (LNPP) Units 7 and 8 with VVER-1200 reactors. LNPP is Russia’s largest nuclear power plant by installed capacity and the only one with two different reactor types, channel-type uranium-graphite reactors (RBMK) and water-cooled water-moderated reactors (VVER). The new units with VVER-1200 reactors will replace RBMK reactors. The latest LNPP Units 5 and 6 were put in operation in 2018 and 2020. Unit 5 is a reference for some of the units built overseas by Rosatom, for example, new units of China’s Tianwan NPP.
