Cooperation. Rosatom took part in the Powering Africa’s Future: Collaborative Energy Solutions session at the African Energy Week in Cape Town. Representatives of the Russian nuclear corporation spoke about the advantages of deploying different nuclear generation solutions, including large nuclear power plants, small modular reactors, and floating nuclear power plants (FNPPs). “We have been operating an FNPP in Russia since 2019 and are confident that this solution can be the answer to Africa’s needs in safe and reliable power supply, given the geography of the region. Africa has a vast and diverse coastline that stretches along the Atlantic and Indian Oceans,” said Kirill Komarov, First Deputy Director General for Corporate Development and International Business at Rosatom. Rosatom’s expertise in training highly qualified personnel for the implementation of projects was also discussed as over 2,000 African students studied nuclear professions at the state corporation’s backbone universities.
