Environmental protection. Rosatom is completing reclamation of the low-grade uranium ore waste dump at the Taboshar industrial site in Tajikistan. The height of the “uranium” embankment was reduced from 65 to 36 meters, which exceeded the design values. According to the results of monitoring conducted by the Agency for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Tajikistan, the radiation background at the reclaimed dump decreased 10 times and reached a value of 0.2 μSv/h, which corresponds to the safety norm. “The implementation of the project will ensure the environmental safety of the region without burdening future generations with nuclear safety issues,” said Eduard Nikitin, director of decommissioning programs at Rosatom fuel division.
