Forum. Rosatom subsidiary Uranium One presented its Wings exploration project at the 11th Mining Expo and Conference held on August 7–8 in Namibia’s capital Windhoek. The promising uranium deposit is located in the Omaheke Region and has the potential to produce uranium by in-situ leaching, the most sustainable and safest method to date. The project provides for a USD 500 million investment in Omaheke and creation of approximately 600 new jobs in the region. The Wings attracted so much attention from the visitors that the booth of Uranium One was one of the most attended at the exhibition. The company also held talks with government agencies, businesses, and public organizations at the conference. Namibia is the world’s third country in terms of uranium exports, but it has no nuclear generation capacity. Around 70% of electricity it needs is imported. Not surprisingly, Namibian Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah called on businesses in her keynote address to invest more in the development of nuclear technology, emphasizing its huge potential in such sectors as industry, medicine, and production and transportation of foods.
