In 2021, a new record was set for cargo transportation on the Northern Sea Route (NSR): 34.85 million tons (compared to almost 33 million tons in 2020). 86 vessels passed through the NSR, 75 of them were flying foreign flags. The transit volume in 2021 surpassed 2 million tons (compared to 1.3 million tons in 2020).
