ITER. First-wall panels for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) are ready to go into production. Researchers from the Efremov Research Institute of Electrophysical Equipment (NIIEFA, part of Rosatom) completed a multi-year production cycle and a series of tests on this most critical and complex component of the thermonuclear reactor. According to the agreement with the ITER Organization, Russia will manufacture and supply 179 panels. The first-wall panels belong to the most energy-intensive ITER systems. ITER is a tokamak-based fusion reactor designed to demonstrate the possibility of controlled thermonuclear fusion. It is a joint project of the European Union, Russia, the United States, India, China, South Korea, and Japan. Rosatom has been designated as an organization responsible for the fulfillment of Russia’s obligations in the ITER project.
