Kazakhstan. On August 8, 2025, work started in Kazakhstan on the project to build a VVER-1200 nuclear power plant, with engineering surveys underway to identify the optimal site and prepare design documents. Rosatom drilled the first exploratory borehole and extracted soil samples for analysis. This will help assess seismic stability, hydrogeological conditions, and other site-specific parameters, all of which will be factored into the plant’s design to ensure safety and reliability of the future station. At least 50 boreholes, ranging from 30 to 120 meters deep, will be drilled. The collected data will inform the final decision on the plant’s exact location.
