North Pole. On August 13, the Icebreaker of Knowledge scientific and educational expedition left Murmansk and set off for the North Pole. Organized by Rosatom for the fifth time, this year’s expedition is the first to feature an international team. The 50 Let Pobedy icebreaker, the usual vehicle of the expedition, took on board a group of 63 talented students, including 10 children from some of Rosatom’s host countries (Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Mongolia, Hungary, India, China, and South Africa). Also on board the icebreaker are 15 experts selected at the World Youth Festival, which was held in Sochi earlier this year. They represent Cameroon, Iraq, Bangladesh, Tunisia, Belarus, Uzbekistan and other countries. “You are about to embark on one of the most impressive journeys of your life. We will show you the Arctic as we, the nuclear icebreaker crew, see it. The icebreaker will travel one thousand two hundred miles to the North Pole. We plan to reach the top of our planet on August 17,” said 50 Let Pobedy captain Ruslan Sasov and signaled to cast off the lines.
