NPP. Rosatom obtained construction licenses for the nuclear islands of Leningrad NPP Units 7 and 8 from the Russian regulator Rostechnadzor. These documents signal the beginning of main construction and installation works on the site. In the next few years, around one hundred and fifty buildings and structures will be erected, all necessary service lines laid, and commissioning work carried out. Units 7 and 8 of the Leningrad NPP will be put into commercial operation in 2030 and 2032. They will replace RBMK-1000 reactor units 3 and 4 of the same nuclear power plant. Each new unit will annually feed almost 9 billion kWh of electricity to the national grid. The two new units will together generate more than 850 billion kWh of electric power over 50 years of their design life. Accounting for about 20% of total power production in Russia, Rosatom is a national leader in electricity generation.
