On December 4, Rosatom held the Small Modular Reactors Day (SMR Day) to present a full range of technology solutions designed to meet climate goals and ensure a low-carbon future. Russia operates the world’s only SMR on board of the floating nuclear power plant, Akademik Lomonosov. Projects are underway for a new generation of floating power units with RITM-200 reactors. They will begin to supply power for the development of the Baimskaya license area in Chukotka by 2029. Rosatom is also working on the engineering design of Shelf-M microreactors with a capacity of up to 10 MW. “There are more than 70 small modular reactors under development worldwide. Rosatom is the only technology company that has moved from words to deeds. Today, delivering our projects for Yakutia and Chukotka, we set ourselves the task of demonstrating cost efficiency and reliability of SMRs,” says Kirill Komarov, First Deputy Director General for Corporate Development and International Business at Rosatom.
