Rooppur NPP. Installation of eight heat exchangers for the passive heat removal system (PHRS) was completed at Rooppur Unit 1. This passive safety system is designed to continuously remove heat from the reactor core in case of power supply failure. The ambient air coming into the heat exchanger cools it down, with steam from the steam generator condensed inside the heat exchanger tubes. Rooppur is the first nuclear power plant in the country. Built to the Russian design, the plant will have two VVER-1200 reactors with a total installed capacity of 2,400 MW.
