Rosatom will build a center for irradiation of foods and medical devices in Uzbekistan by 2023. The respective agreement between Rosatom and the Uzbek Gatter Group has been signed, and manufacturing of the main equipment has already begun. Irradiation, while safe for people, increases the shelf life of products. The center is designed to process more than 70,000 tons of fruits and vegetables and 7,000 tons of medical products per year. “The multipurpose processing center in Uzbekistan is the first such project for Rosatom abroad. The center will promote the development of agriculture and retail, which will lead to the growth of the country’s economic potential,” says Igor Obrubov, Rusatom Healthcare Director General.
