SNPP. Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev and UzAtom Director Azim Akhmedkhadzhaev have kicked off on-site works for a small-scale nuclear power plant (SNPP) to be built in Uzbekistan’s Jizzakh Region. The initial phase will involve excavating about 1.5 million cubic meters of soil to make a 13-meter-deep foundation pit for the power unit with a RITM-200N reactor. “Just as in all our international projects, we strive to increase local content in the construction of this SNPP. Much work will be done by subcontractors from Uzbekistan. Rosatom will build a station with a service life of at least 60 years and will provide all necessary support during its operation,” Alexey Likhachev said. The nuclear power plant will have two large power units with Generation III+ VVER-1000 reactors and two 55 MW power units with RITM-200N reactors. This will be the world’s first facility to feature both high- and low-capacity reactors on the same site. Currently, work is underway to conduct engineering surveys, finalize design, and set up a construction yard. The first concrete pouring is scheduled for 2026.
