Uranium. The acquisition of the Budennovskoye uranium deposit in Kazakhstan brought Rosatom to the second place worldwide in terms of uranium reserves. “We maintain our global leadership as we rank firmly second by reserves and are in the Top 3 across all stages of the nuclear fuel cycle,” Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Discovered in the Suzak District of the Turkestan Region (Kazakhstan) in 1976, the deposit is one of the largest uranium fields in the world. The deposit is divided into seven blocks operated by three companies, Karatau, Akbastau, and Budennovskoye. The latter operates blocks 6 and 7. Uranium One Group and NFC Logistics Center have acquired a 49% stake in Budennovskoye; Kazatomprom holds 51%. Its total uranium reserves are estimated at 120,100 tons.
