A Meeting on the Neva River
back to contentsThe annual conference has been already held for 15 years, and is one of the key events for the specialists doing development, design, operation and experimental use of research reactors. This year it for the first time will take place in Russia. The event will be conducted on April 21-25, 2013, by the European Nuclear Society and Nuclear Information and Exhibition Center “Atomexpo” with the participation of IAEA. The location is Courtyard Marriott Hotel.
Topics for Discussion
This year the conference will be attended by more than 200 specialists from Australia, Austria, Argentina, Belgium, Hungary, Great Britain, Holland, Germany, Canada, Nigeria, Russia, Slovenia, USA, Turkey, France, RSA, Korea and others. The specialists from the most recognized world institutions, like Kurchatov Institute Russian Research Centre, Idaho National Laboratory (USA), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), Technical University Munich, Vienna University of Technology and other prestigious institutes and laboratories of atomic industry will take part in the event.
The Russian delegation will be chaired by V.A. Pershukov, Deputy General Director and Director of Innovations Management of Rosatom. The conference program is rich: the research reactor nuclear fuel cycle, disposal of nuclear fuel, operation and maintenance of research reactors, new innovative projects and methods of research, additional safety measures after the Fukushima catastrophe.
Bonus Time
Upon completion of the scientific program, some technical tours to nuclear facilities are planned, in particular to B.P. Konstantinov Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute (PIYaF). The institute conducts fundamental research in particle physics and high energy, nuclear physics, condensed matter physics, molecular and radiation biophysics. Besides there are research projects in the application areas: instrument engineering, medicine and ecology. Currently there are two main experimental assemblies in the institute: VVR-M research reactor with a unique instrumental base for research directly in the reactor active zone and the proton accelerator, which had been successfully used for proton method of brain disease diagnostic, later used in many clinics of the world.
At the PIYaF territory there is also the PIK modern high-flux beam reactor – one of the major reactors in the fundamental and application research sphere. In the world science the reactors of this type are used as superpower microscopes. Besides the conference participants will be offered additional English language-guided bus tours over Saint-Petersburg and suburban areas. The conference invites participants: heads and specialists in nuclear power sphere, representatives of science and business.
