back to contentsA delegation of the Norway Radiation Protection Authority (NRPA) completed its working visit to the Kola NPP in order to conduct performance evaluation of the joint projects implemented by IFE and Kola NPP to increase the station’s radiation and nuclear safety. “The results are impressive, – says Hokan Mattson, the NRPA Chief Advisor, after visiting the NPP site where the Norwegian equipment is being used. –All projects are done ideally, the equipment is well-fixed, all specialists are well-trained. Besides, the Russian side defines the level of cooperation with us as high”. The bilateral cooperation has been conducted for 20 years, within the framework of Norwegian government technical assistance program. As a result, the Kola NPP has had several projects implemented, meant to increase the station’s safety. Thus the equipment for revolving gear vibration control, nondestructive metal control and water chemistry monitoring has been delivered to the site.
Rosatom’s SNIIP JSC (Specialized R&D Institute of Engineering), one of the major scientific organization in the sphere of nuclear engineering, has won the tender for supplying equipment -computerized systems of radiation monitoring for the Tianwan NPP. According to the contract, the main technological equipment will be purchased by the client, while the SNIIP specialists are to introduce it to the joint system. The company doesn’t lack relevant experience. “SNIIP has done several projects in China on a turnkey basis, thus, together with the consortium of designers, SNIIP is one of the chief performers of monitoring, control and diagnostics system of the Tianwan NPP’s first phase”, explained Andrey Gordeev, Chief Structural Engineer of SNIIP.
Rosatom is going to pay for Bangladeshi students’ studying in Russia for further operation of the future Ruppur NPP, said Rosatom General Director, Sergey Kiriyenko. “The first students are arriving to study as early as this month. And Russia pays for it. The number of students will grow every year”. Thus the construction of the plant, according to him, brings Bangladesh to other category of countries from the point of view of scientific and technological development. The first group of masters from Bangladesh will arrive to Tomsk Polytechnic University. Besides there is a joint program of technical cooperation between Rosatom and IAEA, meant for training Bangladeshi specialists in design, construction and operation of NPP. The Memorandum on personnel training for nuclear power sphere was signed between Rosatom and Bangladeshi Ministry of Science and Technology in 2012.
The directing officials of CICE&T (Rosatom’s Central Institute for Continuing Education and Training) met with a group of scientists and specialists in low power reactors from Indonesia chaired by Hadid Subki, a technical leader of the low and medium power reactors section of the IAEA. The parties discussed the possibility of regular seminars on low power reactors to promote nuclear energy in Southeast Asia, where there is a demand in low power installments to generate power and desalinate water. Indonesian side supported the CICE&T offer to conduct specialists’ training in the Far Easter Federal University. CICE&T has had a long-time partnership with FEFU in organizing education on nuclear profiles for future specialists taking part in NPPs based on Russian design, including low power.
The 7th International Forum AtomEco’2013 will include a round-table discussion entitled “Administering Radioactive Waste Management Projects: Regional, Sectorial, National and Global Aspects.” The participants will pay special attention to discussing the unified state system of managing radioactive waste as an infrastructural element of the national system of management of nuclear energy enterprises. Rosatom’s representatives will speak about problems and issues in forming the system of managing radioactive waste. The discussion will cover the issues of safety and economic efficiency of international cooperation in radioactive waste management and the experience of radioactive waste management in other countries. The round-table discussion will be attended by representatives of Russian and foreign organizations, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the RF, the RF Ministry of Regional Development and Rostechnadzor. The dates of the Forum are October 30-31.
