Russia’s total revenue from Russian-American agreement of the HEU-LEU program exceeded the previously planned and amounts to more than $12 billion, according to the RF Audit Chamber. Alexander Zhdankov, auditor, said that Russian party totally fulfilled the agreement; in December 2013 the last batch of LEU was shipped to the US. “The agreement signed at the beginning of the 90-ies helped Russian atomic industry to avoid destabilization, provide its business and bring the base to future Russian-American partnership in the field of uranium products trade”, – he said.
Wagons For Fuel
Representatives of Czech and Slovak companies delivering fresh fuel on behalf of Slovak “Bogunitse” and “Mohovtse” atomic plants visited Rosatom’s Machine-Building Plant (part of TVEL fuel company) in order to see the wagons of 11-9960 model, which are to start product transportation abroad in February 2014. During the working meeting they examined technical and geometrical characteristics of the wagons, special requirements to access ramps for maintenance, cooperation issues while shipping fresh fuel and returning empty packing containers (TUK), organizing NF transportation to Slovak NPPs doing transit via Ukrainian territory and along the Slovak one. Russian specialists offered a professional master-class, teaching how to use wagon equipment while doing handling operations. Foreign colleagues were also given a teaching film showing details of handling operations with new wagons.
Bring The Fuel Back
Russia is planning to sign an intergovernmental agreement with Uzbekistan concerning bringing irradiated fuel of IIN-3M research reactor to the RF. According to the agreement text, the SNF produced in Russia is to be returned in a form of UO2SO4 solution, with a volume of no more than 30 liters and uranium mass with isotope U-235 enrichment of no more than 5000 grams (5 kg). The SNF will be brought to the RF for temporary storage with future reprocessing.
NF Supply Continues
Russia its NF supply to Switzerland, as said Rosatom’s official representative Sergey Novikov. Thus he disproved the information that appeared in mass media saying that Achro (Swiss power concern) refused to buy uranium for Betsnau due to noncompliance with ecological safety form from the part of supplier (Russian Mayak). “Back a year ago the Swiss company switched to ordering materials from Siberian Chemical Combine, which also is a Rosatom’s enterprise, – said Mr. Novikov. – Speaking about Mayak, a full account of production ecological acceptability was provided to the Swiss party”.
