Top executives of the Fuel Company of ROSATOM TVEL and the operator of all Ukraine’s operating NPPs NAEC Energoatom agreed at their Kiev meeting to cooperate in frames of the current and promising areas of interaction. NAEC Energoatom’s representatives assured that they do not intend to revise terms of the contract with FC TVEL on supplies of nuclear fuel to Ukraine. Earlier, Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry stated the necessity to diversify nuclear fuel supplies to the country’s NPPs to reduce reliance on sole supplier, which is currently FC TVEL.
Deliveries of enriched uranium to South Korea
The largest exporter of the Russian nuclear fuel cycle product and services, Techsnabexport, will start in 2015 deliveries of enriched uranium to South Korea, which will fabricate nuclear fuel for the first nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates Valery Govorukhin, Deputy General Director of the company, told journalists. “We have a contract with the United Arab Emirates, which has existed since 2012. The contract is for delivery of enriched uranium for Barakah NPP being built by ENEC. Our deliveries cover nearly half of fuel requirements of this plant until 2029. The deliveries will start next year,” Govorukhin said.
Invitation for collaboration
Scientists of ROSATOM’s core university, NRNU MEPHI, were admitted to the International Collaboration IceCube. The IceCube was established about 15 years ago to develop a neutrino detector of 1 cubic kilometer in size in the Antarctic ice. Construction of this unique research facility at a depth of 1.5 to 2.5 km started in 2005 and finished in 2010. The collaboration includes 43 institutes of 12 countries. There have been no Russian organizations. The invitation of NRNU MEPHI scientists to participate in the collaboration is recognition of their merits in the field of ultrahigh energy muons research. The ascension to the collaboration opens the university scientists the way to unique data obtained through this experiment.
