Right on schedule

Unit 6 will be started right on schedule. Alexander Lokshin, Rosatom’s First Deputy CEO for Operations Management, chaired a regular meeting to discuss the construction of Novovoronezh NPP Unit 6. Officials discussed milestones and overall progress towards physical and power startups of the unit. According to Stepan Konstantinov, Deputy CEO of Atomtekhenergo and Director of its Novovoronezh Branch, construction of the unit goes in line with the schedule; cold and hot runs planned for this July will be done on time. By now, the power reactor has been assembled and is ready for the primary loop tightness testing when the reactor, steam generators, main circulation pipe and other components will be filled with water. Vladimir Povarov, Deputy CEO of Rosenergoatom and Director of the Novovoronezh NPP, stressed that all components were installed in full compliance with regulatory requirements, with all punch list items rectified. As was mentioned during the meeting, Unit 6 will be started later this year in accordance with the schedule.

Leningrad NPP-2
Another milestone in the reactor construction was passed at Leningrad NPP-2 as a reactor core support structure and a reflection shield, key structural elements, were installed into the Unit 1 reactor vessel. A protective tube unit will be installed into the reactor vessel in the near future, followed by the assembly of a reactor vessel head. The pre-assembly stage will be completed as soon as the vessel head is placed on the reactor. The 70-tonne and 7.5-meter high protective tube unit is used to fix fuel assemblies in the reactor core and protect the controls from the coolant impact.

The vessel head weighing over 130 tonnes is designed to contain the control rod driving mechanism and in-core monitoring systems, and seal the reactor vessel. The reactor will be assembled by mid-July according to the schedule.

Kursk NPP–2
Preparatory work is going on at Unit 1 and Unit 2 of Kursk NPP-2 as scheduled. Among priority tasks set for this year is the construction of automobile and rail bridges over the Seym River and auxiliary facilities. Kursk NPP-2 is designed to replace the existing Kursk NPP, which will be taken out of operation in 2021.

Rostov NPP
Construction of Rostov NPP Unit 4 goes full tilt. In late June, a reactor vessel was delivered to the construction site for the acceptance control. Weighing 322 tonnes, the 11m long, 5.6m wide and 5.7m high reactor vessel is a key element of the nuclear power unit. As soon as the acceptance control is passed and permits are issued by the national regulator Rostekhnadzor, the reactor vessel will be installed in its place in the nuclear station unit. The installation is scheduled for August and will be followed by the assembly of main pipes and systems.
