Repatriation of VVER-1000 spent fuel assemblies from Ukraine is regulated by the government agreement and a contract between the Mining and Chemical Plant (MCP) and Energoatom, Ukraine’s national nuclear generating company. Quantities, prices and dates of SNF repatriation from the South Ukraine, Khmelnitsky and Rivne nuclear stations are set out in annual addenda to the contract.

The train that transported spent nuclear fuel has been unloaded and spent fuel assemblies have been placed into the spent fuel pool at MCP for storage. As set out in the contract and shipment schedules, the parties are working on the next shipments from other Ukrainian nuclear plants.

It should be noted that a part of the proceeds under the contract will be used to finance social and environmental activities in Krasnoyarsk Krai where MCP is located.

Rosatom’s TVEL Fuel Company continues with fuel deliveries to Ukrainian reactors. As quoted by Ukrainian media with reference to the National Statistics Service, Energoatom purchased fuel assemblies for a total amount of USD 208,118,900 in January–June of the current year. As reported by the Statistics Service, Enrgoatom purchased only Russian fuel (manufactured by TVEL) in the above period.

Last year Ukraine bought fresh nuclear fuel for a total amount of USD 628,176,000. TVEL’s share in this amount was USD 588,830,800 while Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB (a Swedish subsidiary of Westinghouse Electric) accounted for USD 39,345,200.
