Art of technology

The Czech Republic has historically been a key partner of Rosatom. The country operates six Russian-designed VVER nuclear reactors generating nearly one third of electricity. Fuel for the two Czech nuclear stations – Temelin and Dukovany – is supplied by TVEL, a fuel division of Rosatom.

Photographs depict manufacturing processes and products having strong resemblance to the well-known masterpieces of world art – painting, architecture and jewelry. Stained glass panels of Milan Cathedral, mosaic from Ancient Greek temples, Byzantine architecture, traditional Chinese silk, domes of Orthodox churches, Louvre Pyramid from Paris, drawings by Leonardo Da Vinci and Russian matryoshka dolls were matched by photographers and designers with their virtual, harmonious pairs – a structure or a component of nuclear fuel assemblies, equipment and technologies used at TVEL facilities.

According to Karel Katovsky, Head of the Nuclear Power Utilization and Research Group with the Electrical Engineering and Communication Faculty of Brno University of Technology, the exhibition presents the beauty of modern nuclear fuel technologies in an unprecedented way. “This is a vivid and motivating illustration for students of how interesting nuclear fuel technologies can be. I am glad to have this exhibition at our University. Together with its organizers, TVEL and the BUT Electrical Engineering Faculty, we demonstrate that higher education in the nuclear field is as important as never before,” Katovsky commented on the event.

The TVEL as Art of High Technology exhibition has been presented in the Czech Technical University in Prague, University of West Bohemia, Řež Nuclear Research Institute, town of Třebíč near Dukovany NPP, Brno Planetarium and the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, The exhibition will be open till 13 November.
