The project was initiated by the northwestern branch of RosRAO, a Rosatom Group company in charge of nuclear waste management in Russia. The vessel is built as part of the Global Partnership agreement that provides for the Russia-Italian cooperation in the development of infrastructure for safe fuel handling, nuclear waste management and disposal of decommissioned nuclear submarines in Russia’s northern sea ports.
