Russia: a top supplier for ITER
back to contentsThe final document was signed by Anatoly Krasilnikov, Director of the ITER Project Center in Russia, and Eisuke Tada, Deputy Director General of the ITER Organization. The contract provides for the production and delivery of lower nozzle No. 8 for the reactor’s vacuum chamber and a laser-induced fluorescence analyzer (LIFA) to be integrated into the nozzle. Therefore, Russia has finalized and ratified contracts for all 25 systems it was responsible for. Two systems (Nb3Sn and NbTi superconductors) have been completed; the remaining equipment is being manufactured in accordance with the contracts.
The first supply contract for toroidal field superconductors of the ITER magnet system was signed in Moscow on 12 February 2008.
At present, all the ITER members are manufacturing various components for the future reactor and delivering them to the site or other members. Last September the Kurchatov Institute shipped the last three sections of toroidal field superconductors. The delivery of poloidal field superconductors is also in its final phase. In December, Efremov Research Institute of Electrophysical Equipment shipped switching system components for the ITER superconducting magnet system. Russian companies involved in the project are now preparing another shipment of reactor components in accordance with the schedule.
The ITER construction agreement was signed in 2006. European countries finance around 50% of the project; Russia contributes about 10% of the total budget by supplying hi-tech equipment.
