Cooperation Bound to Succeed

back to contents

RASU and Mitsubishi Electric signed a memorandum on understanding and cooperation at ATOMEX 2016, the largest venue for international nuclear industry suppliers. Andrei Butko, CEO of RASU, was positive that the partnership with the world’s leading manufacturer of instrumentation and control systems for nuclear stations and industrial facilities would be mutually beneficial.

“We have know-how and innovative technical solutions used in IC systems for Russian-designed nuclear stations – solutions that are compliant with post-Fukushima requirements – and are ready to bring them to the global market,” Butko noted. “For this purpose, RASU is working hand in glove with international leaders in process control systems. The memorandum on understanding and cooperation with Mitsubishi Electric is a result of a meaningful dialog that was centered, among all other things, on opportunities to increase the local engineering and hardware input and improve our competences in marketing comprehensive hi-tech and project finance solutions.”

“Since the Fukushima disaster in 2011, Japan’s nuclear industry has been in dire straights,” said Katsuya Furuta, Group Vice President and General Manager of Nuclear Energy, Advanced Magnetic & Medical Systems Marketing Division at Mitsubishi Electric. “Nonetheless, this adds to the company’s motivation to improve our products. I would like to specifically mention our efforts in maintaining systems installed on operating nuclear stations. The company’s top priority is to guarantee our customers a seamless operation. We are convinced that collaboration with Russian companies will be a success.”

RASU and Mitsubishi Electric plan to focus their efforts on further safety improvements to existing automation systems, technical and marketing advice on foreign markets, and design of digital process automation systems based on Russian and Japanese technologies. If pilot projects succeed, Rosatom Group companies will be licensed to manufacture some of Mitsubishi Electric modules and components for control systems.

Plans outlined in the memorandum will be implemented by a bilateral working group composed of engineers and marketing experts.
