According to the updated strategic plan for the Egyptian power industry, nuclear will constitute 9% of the country’s power generation in 2018–2030, as the units of El Dabaa nuclear station will be coming online, Mohamed Al Yamani, a spokesman for Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, said to RIA Novosti. On 19 November 2015, Russia and Egypt signed in Cairo agreements on the construction of the Egypt’s first nuclear station near El Dabaa on the Mediterranean coast and terms of a $25bn loan. At present, the parties are finalizing construction and maintenance contracts. They are expected to be signed by the end of this year. The nuclear power plant in El Dabaa on the Mediterranean cost will consist of four 1,200 MW reactor units. With its comprehensive product offering, Rosatom will help Egypt to create a full-fledged nuclear power industry from scratch and assist in delivering hi-tech projects.
