Construction at Full Tilt

back to contents

Construction at Rostov Unit 4 is in progress, with 80% of pipelines already installed. All the large-size machinery in the reactor island has been mounted, and the workers are now busy fitting pipes. First, they are going to install systems to be used in December for non-pressure tests –pre-washing the pipes and equipment of the reactor island with desalinated water. Non-pressure tests mark the beginning of preparations for the reactor start-up. Unit 4 is scheduled to go critical in 2017.

Concreting of the external containment dome has been finished at Novovoronezh Unit 7. This operation puts an end to the construction of cast-in-place structures in the reactor building. “With the operation completed, we are proud to say that the reactor building has finally reached its design height,” said ASE Group Vice President Vitaly Polianin. “Now, the team can get down to the installation of internal safety systems.”

The first out of four main circulation pumps (MCP) was assembled at Leningrad Unit 1, now under construction. The operations were running in stages. When operating, the main pumps of the station’s primary loop will ensure the passage of coolant through the reactor core.
