MBIR
back to contentsThe manufacturer has already made the first 45-ton support ring of high-duty cast iron, measuring 5 m in outer diameter, 580 mm in width and 780 mm in height. The company will produce a total of eight rings varying in size and weighing 256 tons. Afterwards, they will be machined at PetrozavodskMash to be later assembled into a thermal shield for the reactor. With its unparalleled specifications, MBIR will solve a broad variety of research tasks, among them development of safer and more reliable nuclear power reactors, including fast breeder reactors for the closed nuclear fuel cycle. Additionally, the new facility will bring about a several-fold reduction in research times. The plans are to establish an international research center (IRC) on the premises of MBIR.
