Collaboration. Rosatom has been selected as the leader of an international consortium to build Kazakhstan’s first nuclear power plant. The selection process was conducted by the Atomic Energy Agency of Kazakhstan with input from international experts. Negotiations were held with the world’s leading reactor technology suppliers, complemented with visits to their manufacturing sites. Following the considerations, the Interagency Nuclear Industry Development Commission came to the conclusion that Rosatom’s proposal offered the optimal and most advantageous conditions for constructing a nuclear power plant in the country. “We welcome Kazakhstan’s decision to move forward with the nuclear power plant project,” said Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev. “The country will have a nuclear plant built to one of the world’s most advanced and efficient designs featuring Russian technologies. Our Generation 3+ VVER-1200 reactors combine time-proven engineering solutions with the latest active and passive safety systems developed in strict compliance with international safety standards. These VVER-1200 reactors are already operational both in Russia and abroad.”
