Construction sites. The reactor pressure vessel (RPV) for the second power unit has been installed in its design position at the El Dabaa construction site in Egypt. “Today’s event is another important step in implementing one of the largest national projects under the New Republic campaign. It brings us closer to fulfilling Egypt’s long-standing dream of having its own civil nuclear power plant,” said Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. The 340-tonne RPV was placed into the center of the reactor pit using a heavy-duty crawler crane, with an installation precision of one-tenth of a millimeter. “This is a major milestone for both the power unit and the entire project. We now can proceed to the next key stage, the welding of the primary coolant pipeline,” Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev pointed out. The El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant will have four VVER-1200 reactor units with a capacity of 1,200 MW each.
