Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev and Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, reviewed the progress of construction at the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. Both parties praised the pace of work, highlighting the installation of Unit 2’s reactor pressure vessel in its design position in July. First electricity from the plant is expected to be fed into the grid in 2028. Beyond power generation, the officials discussed expanding cooperation into non-energy sectors, including the construction of a desalination plant and the establishment of nuclear medicine and additive manufacturing centers. El Dabaa will be Egypt’s first nuclear power facility featuring four power units with VVER-1200 reactors, each with a capacity of 1,200 MW.
