Construction sites. Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev visited the Akkuyu NPP construction site in Türkiye, where he received a briefing on the project’s status. The equipment at Unit 1 is progressively transitioning to operate as a single, integrated system. Following the completion of the first phase of hydraulic testing, the main coolant pumps were started up. “Our task is to complete this phase as quickly as possible, move on to the licensing stage, obtain the operating license, and accordingly, begin commissioning operations before the end of the year. It is clear that the main part of our work is taking place right here, in the control room of the power unit. And it is already evident that this is the control room of an operating plant, not one under construction,” Alexey Likhachev said. The main control room is the nerve center of the power unit. At the current stage of pre-commissioning, operating personnel are already monitoring the performance of the unit’s main engineering systems. Akkuyu is Türkiye’s first nuclear power plant; it will have four power units with Generation III+ VVER reactors, each having a capacity of 1,200 MW.
