Construction sites. China’s Tianwan Unit 7 equipped with a VVER-1200 reactor has achieved first power. All systems performed as designed. “The first electricity generation at Tianwan Unit 7 is another victory for the team of Russian and Chinese professionals. Our partnership, which has spanned decades, allows us to confidently look forward to the continued success of our joint work,” said Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev. The subsequent power ascension involves a gradual increase in reactor power and equipment performance testing. Upon reaching 50% capacity, the unit will transition to trial operation. Power will then be gradually raised to 100% for final testing, followed by the start of commercial operation. The Tianwan NPP is the largest economic cooperation project between Russia and China. Rosatom is responsible for the design and supply of equipment for the nuclear islands of Units 7 and 8. The Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant already operates four Russian-designed power units with VVER-1000 reactors.
