Cooperation. Rosatom showcased its large- and small-capacity nuclear generation solutions for Southeast Asian countries at IGEM 2026, an international greentech and eco products exhibition in Kuala Lumpur. A model of a floating nuclear power plant drew particular attention from visitors. The booth was attended by Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Fadillah Yusof, alongside Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Arthur Kurup. “Floating power units can serve as an excellent first step toward establishing a national nuclear industry and the full-scale integration of nuclear generation into the energy mix for coastal and island nations,” said Tim Fleming, Head of Rosatom’s Representative Office in Malaysia. Such units can be deployed offshore, near ports, or adjacent to large data centers. Rosatom’s proposal includes the delivery of the power unit to the customer and its removal for refueling, taking over spent fuel management responsibilities. Russia is already operating a floating nuclear power plant, Akademik Lomonosov, which provides electricity and heat to the city of Pevek.
