Projects. Rosatom’s flagship project in Africa is Egypt’s first nuclear power plant, El Dabaa, with four power units concurrently under construction. Once commissioned, the plant will supply approximately 10% of the country’s electricity, generating enough power for around 20 million people. Rosatom’s cooperation with other countries on the continent extends to many other sectors. In Tanzania, the Russian nuclear corporation is developing the Mkuju River uranium mining site. Another uranium extraction project is being developed in Namibia. In Mali, Rosatom is conducting exploration activities at the Bougoula lithium deposit and negotiating terms for the construction of the Sanankoroba solar power plant. A 2026–2027 roadmap has been agreed upon for Ethiopia’s first nuclear generation facility. In Rwanda, work is underway to advance a small modular reactor project and build a Nuclear Science and Technology Center, which is designed for research, workforce training, and various industry applications of radiation technologies.
