MBIR is the multi-purpose fast neutron research reactor, which will be built on the site in Dimitrovgrad, Russia. It will be the world’s largest research reactor. Its power capacity will be 150 MW. The new reactor will become the core of the International Research Center to study in particular into new nuclear fuels, structural materials and coolants. The reactor will be used also for production of radioisotopes for medical purposes and therapy.

The designers project that after commissioning MBIR reactor with its power capacity of 150 MW and a broad range of applications will be the most actively used research reactor in the world. The MBIR project cost is RUB 16.4 billion. The architect general of MBIR is Leading Institute VNIPIET; the reactor chief designer is the N.A. Dollezhal NIKIET. Currently, the work is under way to prepare the construction site of the future reactor.

AEM-technology will manufacture the reactor pressure vessel with the protective shell, core barrel and reactor internals, rotating plugs (RPV head), upper closure and heat shielding. A total weight of the equipment to be supplied will be 825 tons.
