Akkuyu NPP project was assessed in Vienna
back to contentsIAEA technical meeting is being held since 2006 and allows its participants exchanging the experience in the area of necessary infrastructure creation and development within nuclear power programs. Representatives of approximately 70 countries developing the nuclear power engineering and starting to implement it in their power supply systems became participants of the event this year.
The first session of the workshop was devoted to the actively developed nuclear branch of the Republic of Turkey. Workshop participants have learnt about Turkey experience in development of new nuclear power engineering projects. Emine Birnur Fertekligil, the ambassador, permanent representative of Turkey in IAEA, has told about the country plans to construct three nuclear power plants and to cooperate with the IAEA. Nejati Jamach, the director of the nuclear power engineering projects implementation department of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey, deliver a presentation on the «Government Role in Nuclear Infrastructure Development» subject. He told about prospects of nuclear generation development, about professional training and local manufacturing of equipment for NPP projects in the territory of the Republic of Turkey. «As of today, more than 350 Turkish companies stated their willingness to take part in implementation of NPP construction projects», – noted Nejati Jamach in the report.
Mehmet Ceyhan, head of the nuclear safety department of the Turkish Atomic Energy Commission delivered a presentation on the «Legal and regulatory framework in the licensing of NPP projects» subject. He has told about changes in the Turkish legislation in the field of nuclear power engineering, allocation of authorities in decision-making concerning nuclear safety. He has told in detail about ambitious cooperation project between Russia and Turkey, which is being implemented for the first time in the world according to BOO (build-own-operate) model, achieved successes and plans for 2015.
Fuad Ahundov, the general director of Akkuyu Nuklear company, which was founded by Russian nuclear experts in Turkey, drew attention of workshop participants to that at each stage of the project implementation the activity is performed within the limits of the EIA Report (environmental impact analysis), labour and environment safety rules coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Town Planning of Turkey. All works during Akkuyu NPP construction are performed according to the statutory regulations of the Republic of Turkey.
Russian experts construct the NPP at the southern coast of Turkey consisting of four power units of “NPP-2006” project with VVER-1200 reactors with the total power of 4800 MW.
