Ekushey Book Fair is held in February at Bangladesh Academy in Dhaka since 1985 and is mainly focused on publication of books in Bangla.The book presented by ROSATOM contains answers to 30 frequently asked questions about nuclear power, operation of nuclear power plant, its safety and environmental friendliness for population. It also contains photographs of nuclear power plants, nuclear fuel and other relevant subjects. The book has been the first printed material in Bangla about nuclear power basics available for general population and children.

Step into Future
The presentation of the book has been supported by the Ministry of the Science and Technology and Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission. Philipp Kosov, representative of ROSATOM and Arshad Hossain, director general of the nuclear information center have presented the book to teachers of Dhaka schools. The rest books have been distributed to the schools at Ishwardi of the Pabna district where Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is expected to be built. The book has been available free of charge for all people who were present during its presentation at the book fair.

“We are stepping into the future of our country, the world of nuclear energy and we need to educate our people about its latest and safest technologies. This event became first in this direction and it is important that we addressed not only to Dhaka population in our effort, but local community as well,” noted Dr Md. Shawkat Akbar, Project Director of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project.

Nuclear Communication
The communication campaign in the nuclear power industry in Bangladesh aims at raising public awareness and educating people in Bangladesh and Rooppur in particular, at basics of nuclear energy, its benefits, safety, environmental friendliness, and cost effectiveness. It was signed along with the action plan for nuclear infrastructure development at the workshop meeting of the committee for implementing Bangladesh nuclear power program held in Dhaka in January 2015.

Under this communication campaign, the book “Nuclear energy: Questions and Answers” will be distributed at nuclear information center at Dhaka Novo Theatre, which was opened in 2013 and has been attended by over 17,000 children and adults so far.

The ROSATOM nuclear information centers are cutting-edge multimedia hall in outer space theme. The modern 3D panoramic projection, interactive quizzes and virtual tours make it possible for the visitors to learn about traditions and innovations in nuclear power industry, as well as about natural and man caused radioactivity. Apart from that, the nuclear information centers offer visitors public popular science lectures, workshops of the leading science journalists, mind game contests, technical creativity, programming, animation classes, creative workshops, experimental laboratories, computer classes for elderly people. Over forty-five thousand projects have been implemented for the last five years the information centers exist.

The nuclear information centers are open in seventeen regions of Russia. In December 2012, the first nuclear information centers were opened abroad in such cities as Hanoi (Vietnam) and Mersin (Turkey). The nuclear information centers were established in Dhaka (Bangladesh) in 2013, in Istanbul (Turkey) in 2014, and in Minsk in 2015.

The nuclear information centers have been recognized not only by hundreds of thousands of visitors but international professional community as well. In 2010, the project was awarded PIME Award for Communications Excellence as the best communication project in Europe in the field of nuclear power. This award is organized by IAEA, Nuclear Energy Agency, and FORATOM and is awarded for the most creative communication campaign and use of innovative communication tools.
