“The regional office is dedicated to strengthening Rosatom’s position in the Chinese market. It will act as a hub for further business development in the country. This does not refer just to new reactors at the Tianwan NPP– our business development plans cover products and services offered by all Rosatom Group companies and provide for closer cooperation in non-nuclear fields,” said Alexander Merten, President of Rusatom International Network.

Rosatom currently has marketing offices in:

— Prague (Czech Republic), for Central Europe

— Kiev (Ukraine), for Eastern Europe

— Paris (France), for Western Europe

— Singapore, for Southeast Asia

— Johannesburg (South Africa), for Central and South Africa

Plans are to establish marketing offices in all economic centers, including the Middle East, Asia, North and South America.

Sergei Dyomin was appointed Vice-President for China. He will also head up the Japanese market.

Russia and China have been partners in the nuclear field for many years. With the assistance of Russian engineers, China has built two units at the Tianwan NPP, with two other units currently under construction. According to Rosatom CEO Sergei Kirienko, Russia and China are finalizing documents for the construction of new power units at Tianwan NPP.

Negotiations are underway to construct nuclear power stations in remote areas of mainland China that suffer from a shortage of electricity. News came in August that Rosatom received a proposal to construct two power units.

In addition, Rosatom and the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) are discussing joint nuclear initiatives in other countries and negotiating fast breeder projects. Last December, the China Experimental Fast Reactor (CEFR) built by Russian engineers ran at100% power for the first time.

In June 2014, Rusatom Overseas and CNNC New Energy signed a memorandum of cooperation on the development of floating nuclear power plants. According to Sergei Kirienko, Rosatom is committed to build several floating NPPs for China.
