Nuclear Cooperation: Education and Experience

back to contents

Rosatom is actively developing cooperation with Uzbekistan in the nuclear energy sector, combining the transfer of practical expertise with support for the intellectual development of young people. Within this partnership, Uzbek experts studied advanced Russian nuclear operation practices at the Novovoronezh NPP, while school students demonstrated their knowledge and erudition at the Formula of Intelligence international tournament and the Global Atomic Quiz.

Representatives from Uzbekistan’s NPP Construction Directorate and Agency for Nuclear Energy Development (UzAtom) visited the Novovoronezh NPP in Russia to learn how maintenance and repair works are carried out at the plant’s power units. At the Novovoronezh branch of Rosatom Technical Academy, the delegation was shown simulators and workshops for the training of nuclear plant personnel. On the second day of the visit, the guests toured the turbine hall of the Generation III+ VVER-1200 power unit and centralized repair workshops.

“In addition to equipment maintenance and repair, we were interested in learning how personnel are trained and what the training requirements are. We are at the initial stage of the nuclear power plant project, and it is important for us to understand all the nuances to avoid mistakes and establish an effective personnel training approach,” said Davran Isanbekov from UzAtom.

Formula of Intelligence

Meanwhile, the results of the Formula of Intelligence international tournament for school students were announced in Tashkent. The tournament was held among Grade 8–11 students in accordance with the rules of the popular What? Where? When? TV quiz show and brought together 124 teams from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. The event was organized by the Energy of the Future foundation with support from Rosatom and the Information Center for Atomic Technology.

In the international final, Uzbekistan was represented by four teams from Tashkent, as well as participants from Margilan and the Namangan Region. As in the previous year, the best team from Uzbekistan was the Talent Academy. They took seventh place in the international ranking, providing more correct answers than the year before.

Talent Academy captain Vladimir-Miroslav Aksenov highlighted the value of the tournament for the personal development of students: “The Formula of Intelligence is perhaps the largest international tournament for school students in Uzbekistan. And if there is a chance to compete with peers from other countries, this opportunity must be seized. For us, participation in such projects is primarily about self-development. Intellectual games force you to learn new things, take a broader look, and find common ground with each other. Over time, we have become not just a team, but true friends.”

Teams from Uzbekistan have been participating in the Formula of Intelligence international tournament since 2022. It has become one of the largest platforms in Central Asia uniting students interested in science, logic, and intellectual games. This year, the organizers noted an impressive increase in the engagement of school teams compared to previous seasons.

Global Atomic Quiz 2025

Rosatom held its sixth international Global Atomic Quiz, bringing together 46,000 contestants from 106 countries. The quiz included online activities and in-person events at international venues ranging from nuclear technology information centers to schools and universities across many countries.

In Uzbekistan, the Global Atomic Quiz was held as an in-person event in the town of Bogdon (Farish District), the planned site for the country’s first nuclear power plant. The venue gathered 25 teachers and 70 students from local schools. Before the quiz began, an expert from UzAtom gave a presentation on the future nuclear plant project, its implementation stages, and importance for the host region.

Following the presentation, contestants took the quiz in the Uzbek language, actively answering questions about nuclear energy, sustainable development, and advanced technologies. The event demonstrated strong interest among students and teachers in science and nuclear power.
