Kazakhstan To start NPP construction in 2018

Construction of the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan will start in 2018. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technologies of Kazakhstan Bakhytjan Dzhaksaliev. Late May this year, during the visit of President of Russia Vladimir Putin to Kazakhstan, ROSATOM CEO Sergey Kirienko and President of NAC Kazatomprom signed a memorandum of understanding. The document points out that the parties are ready to cooperate in design, construction, commissioning, operation and decommissioning of the NPP with VVER reactor in Kazakhstan. Power capacity of the future plant has not been defined yet. Its cost will be clear after the feasibility study is available.

Cooperation Continues
The nuclear cooperation of Russia and India continues: signing of a contract for building Kudankulam NPP Phase II is expected. By date the parties have already signed the general framework agreement on construction. “We were able to settle all issues and the agreement was signed in April,” ROSATOM CEO Sergey Kirienko said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. Phase II of Kudankulam plant includes Units 3 and 4. The construction customer is the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL).
