Energomashspetsal (EMSS, part of Rosatom’s engineering division, Atomenergomash) produced a big batch of polygon ingots for the von Schaewen AG company (Germany). The work parts will be further used as material for producing forged pieces of various types. The cooperation between EMSS and von Schaewen AG has been going on for 15 years already. The gross mass of ingots, planned to be produced by EMSS in 2014 for European, Asian, Russian and Ukrainian enterprises, amounts to 20 thousand tons.
Indian Specialists At Gidropress
The specialists of the Kudankulam NPP (India) visited Gidropress Expreimental Design Office (part of Atomenergomash). The goal of the visit – Accepted Test Procedures of censors for control rod drives. During the visit they conducted hydro-testing and PT of censors supplied to Kudankulam. The tests were conducted as part of quality tests’ control point surveys for equipment production and included verification and correspondence of documents, metal and equipment components connected with safety. This control point was the second one of the three equipment testing stages and passed successfully. SHEM-3 control rod drives are components of the nuclear reactor core safety system.
Russia and UK discussed NPP licensing
Russia’s and Great Britain’s supervision bodies discussed the issue of NPP licensing. Russian Rostehnadzor (Federal Environmental, Engineering & Nuclear Supervision Agency ) was visited by British delegation consisting of ONR and Environment Agency representatives. During the negotiations the parties exchanged information concerning organizing structure and functions of ONR and Rostehnadzor as well as legislative and regulatory framework in the sphere of nuclear energy application in both countries. Special attention was paid to licensing aspects, such as expert review of documents, substantiating safety issues while constructing new NPP units. The parties expressed interest in further bilateral cooperation and agreed to prepare a corresponding memorandum, specifying exact forms and directions of the cooperation in the field of nuclear and radiation safety regulations while using nuclear energy.
Permission to Construct
Fennovoima has asked for permission from the Finnish government to construct a Russian AES-2006 nuclear plant at its Hanhikivi site, near Pyhäjoki. Fennovoima’s submission of supplementary information follows a recent ruling by the country’s Chancellor of Justice that the original 2010 decision-in-principle remains valid despite the changes to the project. Finland’s Green League – a member of the six-party coalition government – argues that the 2010 decision-in-principle is no longer valid on the basis that the new supplier and smaller reactor size represent significant changes. If the application is approved by the government, it will then be subject to parliamentary debate, WNN reports.
