Finnish energy company Fennovoima has delivered all the necessary documents on project safety offered by Rosatom for Hanhikivi 1 NPP to the Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority STUK. The report demonstrates the extent to which the reactor, offered by Rosatom, meets Finnish safety requirements. Based on the results of the report STUK will prepare a relevant conclusion for the Ministry of Employment and the Economy next spring. It is assumed that all of the changes that need to be made to the project in accordance with Finnish safety requirements will be taken into account before the company requests for permission to construct the nuclear power plant. In addition to the safety assessment, the Ministry also requires Fennovoima to carry out assessment of the environmental impacts from building a new nuclear power plant in Pyhäjoki. The report is also expected in spring 2014

Rosatom representatives took part in the IAEA forum dedicated to acquiring, exchanging and transferring knowledge. There were also representatives of the South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, Egypt, Bulgaria, Finland and Great Britain. The members discussed problems of forming communities of experts, their support and integration. As a result of the work a new IAEA document, called “Support of experts’ communities within the bounds of knowledge management in nuclear industry” was established and approved in the first reading . The document is to provide principles, instruments and practices in creating communities at three levels – global, national and regional. Participation in the forum allowed not only to use Rosatom’s corporate approach in forming the IAEA methodology, but also exchange world’s best practices, which elements could be useful for the Corporation’s program.

The Akkuyu NPP representation office entered the Non-Commercial Partnership of Russian and Turkish Undertakers. The Association provides the following benefits to its members: the latest news in the sphere of business and politics; taking part in events, organizing meeting with companies’ leaders; taking part in seminars and round table sessions; opportunity to establish business relations with Russian and Turkish companies concerning construction of the NPP. The agreement suggests option of posting information on the Partnership’s website or in printed editions along with articles on behalf of the organization, taking part in events. The Partnership offers the Akkuyu NPP company an additional opportunity to provide full, independent information to governments and Parliaments of Russia and Turkey, Presidents’ administration of the both countries and their business societies.

Russian Federal Nuclear Center – The All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics (RFNC – VNIIEF) where one of the best teams of developers of supercomputer software works, presented their innovations at the 3-rd International Scientific Conference “High Performance Computing” which took place in the National Technical University of Ukraine. The problems discussed at the conference concerned high performance computing in physics, astronomy , nanotechnologies, computational biology, mathematics, using supercomputers in industry, parallel programming. There also was an industrial-technological conference “HPC Day 2013” presenting hard and software innovations of the world’s leading producers.

Rosatom took part in the World Energy Congress WEC DAEGU 2013 held in Daegu (South Korea) with the support of the country’s government. At the exhibition there was a booth by Rosatom with the participation of Rosenergoatom Concern –NPP operator, Atomenergoprom engineering company, NIAEP – Atomstroyexport, Atomenergoproyekt, AKME-Engineering and Technabexport. During “the days of Russia” in Korea there were discussions where Rosatom’s representatives participated and spoke about perspectives of small modular NPPs as a response to modern challenges in nuclear power development and multi-D design concept.

The delegation of State Technical University of Nizhny Novgorod, one of the leading institutions in the country for preparing nuclear specialists, visited the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The representatives took part in the site inauguration ceremony of the first country’s NPP “Ruppur” being built on Russian project. They also took part in the opening ceremony of the Nuclear Energy Information Center in Dhaka. During the visit the agreements on cooperation with the University of Dhaka and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology were signed. The agreement suggests sending Bangladeshi students to the Nizhny Novgorod University for studying, postgraduates and faculty training, joint research.
