Guests from Bangladesh

Two Russian-designed nuclear power units are to be built in Rooppur (Bangladesh) by the early 2020s. The new units of Novovoronezh NPP-2 will be a prototype for Bangladesh’s first nuclear station. The guests from Bangladesh had a chance to see their future during the visit to the construction site.

They took a look at the site from the viewing platform, reports the PR Department of the station. Impressed with the construction scale, the delegation made a more detailed tour round Units 6 and 7. The Bangladeshi guests had meetings with operation engineers and carefully listened to each one’s words about how the station works and what advantages VVER-1200 reactors have.

They also visited a gas-insulated 500 kW switch board, an emergency control panel and Unit 6 control room. Outside the facility, the guests inspected a desalination plant and fresh fuel storage. They were especially interested in a 172-meter cooling tower designed to cool water from the secondary circuit at Unit 6, and were glad to take pictures in front of it. They also visited turbine and reactor islands of Unit 7, an environmental monitoring laboratory and a staff-training center.

“We like the station very much. And we are particularly impressed with the strictest safety requirements meticulously followed here. I believe that the Russian-designed Rooppur NPP will solve the problem of energy shortage in my country,” said Saiful Hoque.
