“We signed a long-term five-year service agreement with Iranian nuclear company providing that if Iran develops nuclear power industry and builds more power units, we will take an active part in the work. The service contract covers Bushehr NPP,” CEO of Rosenergoatom Evgeny Romanov said.

He added that Rosenergoatom signed a service contract on Tianwan NPP with the Chinese partners earlier. These contracts provide for power plant maintenance service.

Tianwan NPP was built in the People’s Republic of China earlier based on the improved Russian project and was recognized by the majority of experts as the world safest nuclear power plant. Units 1 and 2 were commissioned in 2007.

Iranian Bushehr NPP has no equals in the world. The German concern Kraftwerk Union AG (Siemens/KWU) began the construction of the plant in 1974. In 1980, the German government joined the US sanctions against Iran and the construction was suspended In August 1992, the governments of the Russian Federation and Iran entered into the agreement on construction of nuclear power plant, and the contract on completion of unit 1 was signed in January 1995.

The Russian experts succeeded in integration of the Russian equipment into the civil works designed by the German company, as well as in use about 12 thousand tons of the German machinery. Bushehr 1 was connected to the national power grid of Iran in September 2011. Commissioning for commercial operation is scheduled for 2015.

In November 2014, the Russian Federation and Iran entered into the contract on construction of two new units of Bushehr NPP based on the Russian technology. Two advanced power units with Generation III+ 1000 MW PWR reactors with all necessary safety systems will be constructed at Bushehr.
